Rejected but Loved baby Chica

Rejected but Loved baby Chica

Ok the Chihuahua as a retirement gift went over…a cliff. I know, I know, you should (almost) never give a pet as a gift unless it is for sure wanted by the recipient. What was said, or not, doesn’t matter; the dog was not wanted. Luckily the parties had a contingency plan that my sister would take the new Chihuahua so that her Lola would have company. The new Chihuahua, Chica, is a fabulous deer headed Chihuahua dog, gorgeous with an even better personality. The two dogs are buds. The Retiree got a camera and other “stuff” and it was all good peeps.

Cocoa’s New Do for Thanksgiving

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Ok the tribe has spoken: Cocoa has a classic poodle cut but not his usual lion cut. Here he is with Sherman, (Sherman is sporting a white mohawk), with his groomer Melissa. I love Avalon salon in Grand Rapids, MI. They don’t have a web page, but need one. I had him shampooed, conditioned, detangled, cut, perfumed and had a bow tie added–we are going to Detroit Rock City (Hockeytown) for Thanksgiving! I actually like him scruffy and non-poodle looking, but he smells good enough to eat! This puppymill rescue pet I found on www.petfinder.com has come a long way. Can’t wait to see the cousins. I heard Lola has some new threads…You’ll see her on the next post. Just started twittering, you can follow me on twitter.com. Happy Thanksgiving!

Fear. I called out for Cocoa, my miniature poodle. No answer. It‘s cold in Michigan, we’ve already had a little snow. I was in a full panic. He wouldn’t last long out here, at only eleven pounds. This wasn’t like him. He usually would go out do his business and maybe run to the front door. Silence was the only answer as I called out his name. I was also starting to feel sick at the idea of telling my four kids their dog was gone. I called the vet because I knew Cocoa had been micro-chipped. The vet’s office gave me the number to the company HomeAgain. They helped me find his ID and listed him as missing. I thought that this was a magical tracking device, but I was told by the vet that it only works if someone finds him and he is scanned. Back outside I saw my dear neighbor in her parka with a leash and dog treats “Go get your coat on!” she demanded. I ran back into my house and upstairs to my closet. There sitting quite comfortably was COCOA! He had never barked when I yelled for him throughout the house. Here’s what I learned: A neighbor that puts her winter coat on to help you find your dog is more than a neighbor. And a dog that can cause so much panic is more than a dog.

According to HomeAgain.com, 90% of pets don’t come home again. On their site they have great tips and stories about pet recovery. But I would love to hear from you. Please send your story or tips on what to do when you lose your pet.

CocoaLeo’s Grooming for Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Ok in these rough economic times isn’t everyone wondering what would Cocoaleo do? Well, right now, he is getting ready to go visit his cousin Lola (a Chihuahua) in Detroit Rock City (a.k.a Hockeytown) for Thanksgiving. It’s cold here in Michigan so I need to decide to get his regular lion’s cut or go with a teddy bear. I thought maybe his fans could decide. Is this too much?

Also, Amy ,the cool librarian sent me some great new pet articles in them I found a new blog http://www.scratchingsandsniffings.com/ This seems like a pretty up-to-date blog with good information. Another new one I found is http://www.pawfun.com. Watch Benny roll over, cause you won’t find any fancy tricks like that here.
