To Market? All I Need is TLC,HSN, Kelly Ripa

I tried out for Kelly Ripa’s new show on TLC for women entrepreneurs, http://tlc.discovery.com/tv/get-on-the-show.html. It was so exciting and interesting, and these are interesting times indeed. I have worked relentlessly trying to get ClipCleany (formerly cleanybeany) to market using the traditional routes banks, local Angel investors, and a local investment group. Chasing money can be a full time job. So Kelly Ripa’s show on TLC where the grand prize is to have your product manufactured and sold on HSN is a huge fantasy, but so is a local bank loan, so might as well have fun. The night before my pitch I was practicing and my prototype broke apart! I put it together with chewing gum and thought, oh well. When we arrived at the hotel there was already a line of some really great women (crap!) I gave my 30 second pitch while my two daughters waited for me (the other two kids were at home with Dad)and they asked me back to do a 2 minute pitch! I prayed my broken prototype would light up, it didn’t, and they asked me what it would mean to me if I won and I started to get weepy! They were so nice about it. It was a great experience and I and I am thankful for it. Thank you, Pick Me Pick Me Pick Me!

Hey check out the posiepod.com. Chris Wargo’s really cool invention! Great if you have a flower garden. I think the casting for TLC is done by now, but I coud be wrong. So TLC and Kelly Ripa didn’t save me darn it! One of the best experiences of trying out for these shows is meeting really cool new inventors and seeing new products. I Love American Inventors…they Rock! Now I think I am going to make myself my own bouquet!

Your too funny! They closed casting on July 1st and won’t let anyone know for 8 to 10 weeks. The show won’t air until the winter or so I’ve heard. Thanks for the compliment on my posie pod. We all need a boost now and then. Kelly might still save you or me or who knows…. I’m sure we all need some saving.

Well, it seems like they would want to call the people that they really want right away and my phone didn’t ring….Trying out for these shows, I tried out for Shark Tank too, is interesting, but you just don’t know what they are looking for. It may have less to do with the product and more to do with “the Show.” I would do it again even though there is a small possibitlity to win, but also it’s great practice to really pitch your product. I’ve seen some of the products that made the show, and I am really happy for those ladies!!! They deserve it. I know the right opportunity will come along if you keep working it.

Tracy,
I just went to your site COOL for you! I love your honesty. You are totally correct in that you have to keep going because there may be better opportunities out there as much as (some of) us inventors want to be saved/launched or discovered by HSN. Unless you have signed a contract with them, keep kicking people! There are really great innovations out there and if you big giants sleep on the idea too long, well….. you snooze and someone else is going to cash in. Good Luck to all the HSN and Shark Tank contestants, hey however you get there I am rooting for you!
